The room’s lights have been lowered to create an atmosphere of private intimacy. For the last twenty minutes teenagers from all over the worship hall have funneled toward the altar, the area directly in front of the stage. Now the altar is full; I can’t even make my way past the first row of chairs without bobbing and weaving.
For twenty minutes I stay in my seat, not totally convinced I will do anything. All this time the worship band plays on, each note filling the air with more than just music. Every song is like an injection of endorphins being released inside me. The Spirit’s momentum has begun to build, and as I feel the presence of God fall on me, my last walls of hesitation fall.
By the time I make it to the altar, I’m already feeling a little punch drunk. I don’t really know where to start or even what to do, so I pray. I release my prayer language over all the teenagers and as I do, the band begins to play the song “Show Me Your Glory.” Feeling the sway of the Spirit, I raise my hands and sing. All my adoration for God I pour out of my heart, and this is when God speaks to me. “Look around,” He says. What? I think. “Look AROUND you!” Realizing what He means, I look all around, and hear him say, “This is my glory.” The sight before me is extraordinary. These teenagers aren’t just receiving the Holy Spirit, they’re turning and praying for one another!
By the end of the evening, about 80 kids will come forward to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Amazing. These young people are literally the glory of God.
